Kupwara, Feb 11 (KNO): Residents of some villages in Lolab of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are aghast at the administration’s “failure” to provide better road connectivity in the area. The people of Khurhama, Afan and Doban villages are complaining that the main, as well as link roads, are in bad condition for many years. “Authorities have failed to macadamise the roads which have developed large potholes and have become unbearable for people to travel,” Shareef Din Khan, a local from Doban village, told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “We belong to one of the remote areas of this border district and are living along the border lines, yet we are deprived of all the basic facilities,” Khan added. A few years ago, work was started on the main road Khurhama but it was left without blacktopping, widening and equal surfacing due to which the condition of the road has deteriorated, locals said. The dilapidated condition of the road is becoming a nuisance, especially during winter as there is very little space to walk on, they said, adding that the road has become accident-prone. The main road of Khurhama still looks decades-old and has not been repaired for years, Naveed-ul-Islam, a student said, adding that all the roads in Lolal are in dilapidated condition. The people have appealed to the district administration to start repairing the roads at the earliest—(KNO)
